The SFP shell produced by Dongguan Shuwang Hardware Products Co., Ltd. is used for small pluggable (SFP). It is a compact hot pluggable network interface module used for telecommunications and data communication applications. The SFP interface on the network hardware is a modular slot for a specific media transceiver, which is used to connect optical fiber cables or sometimes copper cables. [1] Compared with fixed interfaces (such as modular connectors in Ethernet switches), the advantage of using SFP is that each port can be equipped with any suitable type of transceiver as required.


The SFP shell outline specification and electrical interface are specified by the multi-source protocol (MSA) sponsored by the small specification Committee. [2] SFP replaces the larger Gigabit interface converter (GBIC) in most applications and is called mini GBIC by some suppliers. [3]


There are SFP transceivers that support synchronous optical network (SONET), Gigabit Ethernet, fibre channel, PON, and other communication standards. The OSFP standard was originally released in 2016 [13], and the 4.0 version released in 2021 allows the adoption of 8 × The 100 Gbit / s electrical data channel realizes 800 Gbit / s.
